Splicd: get to the point

A simple but great tool for learners, tutors, etc.

If you’re using materials from Youtube, there’s an online app called Splicd that lets you isolate the part you want to show from any YouTube video.

Once you isolate the specific timeframe (you have to do this manually, just watch the video and annotate the start and end times of the part you want to clip). And voilà. Unfortunately, it doesn’t allow you to download files…

…unless you’re using Firefox and have the Video DownloadHelper add-on installed…:)

Note for teachers or for learners:

You can use this tool in guessing tasks, for instance…let them figure out what comes before or after.

Or if you’re working on a rip & mix project, you can select different tidbits and download them with DownloadHelper to create your own work of art.

You can select directly the starting point at YouTube, by adding “#t=XXmXXs” to the end of the video link. For instance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bibCui3lFM#t=1m45s (via Techcrunch)

However:

a) You can’t specify when it should stop.

b) Hard to remember for the non-tech-savvy.

So I still think YouTube should integrate Splicd easy and clear interface in their site.
